About the play.........

"In just over two hours time the Blarney Youth Orchestra will give the most important concert of their life, playing Tchaikovsky's fourth symphony to an invited audience of cultural bigwigs. There's just one problem – they have no instruments.

On stage at the concert hall ROLAND, the quiet and intense orchestra leader, is befriended by local musician and The Who fanatic ALEX. With a broom for a guitar the cheeky cleaner gyrates to the sound of Pinball Wizard. The two tease one another and share their passion for rock and classical music alike. But tension mounts with the arrival of the musicians, including VIOLIN, CELLO and FLUTE who worships Roland. They complain about everything from banjaxed digs to wild weather until news arrives of the missing instruments – impounded by Russian customs. All hope seems lost. Will the orchestra ever stop bickering and resolve their differences? Can friendship cross musical and cultural divides? And is Roland destined to be a great conductor, or is he simply a schoolboy waving a stick? Alex has an idea…

Patrick Marber's fast and funny new play is for anyone who's ever played air-trombone"
