Help for Blarneys unemployed

The good news is that unemployed people in Blarney are going to get support right here in the heart of the community.

The go ahead has been given for a job club to operate out of the local Community Centre at the Mills (the Gulley) in Blarney.

The purpose of the job club will be to provide job seekers with real job hunting skills. It will cover every aspect of job hunting from knowing exactly what you can offer and putting together a top class CV, to targeting potential employers and preparing for interview.

Research indicates that being a member of a job club is one of the best ways to job hunt. As well as teaching you the art of job hunting in a supportive environment, a job club is an excellent networking opportunity and a great way to share information as to the local labour market. What you get from a job club gives you a serious advantage, when it comes to finding gainful employment.

'Many people live with the misconception that it's all about qualifications, and with jobs so thin on the ground, only the most qualified get hired - Not so. While jobs are thin on the ground, there are always jobs and always will be. Its really about pitching what you've got in the right direction and doing it well'  

Behind the initiative are the Blarney Community Association, the Blarney Chamber of Commerce, the Community Council and myself - Eoin Mc Carthy. I will be running the club personally. I am a professional Career Coach and Trainer and I am looking forward to the challenge of improving employment levels within the community.

We are hoping to develop the concept further and provide other resources to assist local unemployed people, and while this job club is a first step, it is a big step.
